Blackburn Rovers vs Leeds United: Championship match preview, early team news and predicted line-ups
Domestic football is back this weekend with Marcelo Bielsa's promotion chasers travelling to Ewood Park
Promotion chasing Leeds United travel to Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon to take on Blackburn with the return of domestic football after the international break.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side currently sit third in the Championship, and they know they will move top of the table – albeit temporarily – if they secure all three points in Saturday’s midday kick-off.
Blackburn find themselves five points behind Leeds, but they host the Whites aware that Bielsa’s side have struggled for consistency recently; they’ve won just two of their previous six matches.
A defeat for Leeds could leave them five points off top spot at the end of the day, should current league leaders Sheffield United defeat Derby in the 17:30 kick-off – which you can listen to LIVE on talkSPORT 2.
What the players are saying
Elliott Bennett (Blackburn): “We’ve started quite well and are relishing the opportunity to play everyone in the league. Before the last international break everyone will have thought ‘three tough games for Blackburn’ but we came out of that with five points and probably could have one or two more. We look forward to playing everyone and can’t wait for that to come round and there aren’t many games to look forward to more than Leeds.”

Adam Forshaw (Leeds): “We’re fit and we’re scoring a lot of late goals. We did it against Brentford, Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall. A lot has been said about us possibly tiring, but if you recover well, then there’s no reason why we can’t keep up this standard and intensity. We’re professional in how we look after ourselves. We’ve shown no signs of letting up yet, so I don’t think that will happen.”
Early team news
Charlie Mulgrew withdrew from the Scotland squad after picking up an injury in Haifa during the country’s defeat to Israel, but suggestions are it was merely a precaution.
Leeds were without seven first-team players for their previous match – a 1-1 draw with Brentford – but there is positive news for the Whites heading into Saturday’s clash. Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez, Gaetano Berardi and Conor Shaughnessy should be fit for the match vs Blackburn, while Barry Douglas is a doubt.
Patrick Bamford and Izzy Brown remain out of action.
Blackburn XI: Raya; Bennett, Lenihan, Mulgrew, Williams; Rodwell, Evans; Reed, Dack, Rothwell; Graham
Leeds XI: Bailey Peacock-Farrell; Berardi, Jansson, Cooper, Douglas; Phillips, Klich, Saiz; Dallas, Roofe, Hernandez
