Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon ‘forgiven’ for bad tackle on Alloa Athletic’s Greig Spence after paying striker THREE months worth of wages
Spence, whose full-time job is with his dad's plumbing firm, was on the end of a nasty Gordon challenge in a Scottish League Cup tie in September 2016
Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon paid Alloa’s Greig Spence’s wages for three months after injuring him with a nasty tackle.
Spence, who played for the Hoops in the 2011/12 season, was clattered by Gordon at Parkhead in a Scottish League Cup tie in September 2016.
As he was a part-time footballer, Spence claims the waist-high tackle led to him having time off from his day job in his dad’s plumbing firm.
This comes after the Scotland international was accused of hypocrisy by fans after criticising Scottish football’s disciplinary system following Rangers keeper Allan McGregor’s kick out on Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer.
Spence, 26, wrote on Twitter: “I was off work for three months after this challenge but Craig Gordon covered my wages I lost so I forgive him.”
He also told a fan: “I was off work for a month after the game with concussion.”
He returned to the team three days later as Alloa drew 2-2 away at Stenhousemuir.
The striker was on the books at Rangers before joining their Glasgow rivals in 2011.
However, Spence failed to make a senior appearance for Celtic despite showing good form for the youth side.
