In August 2017, Kanye West dropped a new sneaker—the Adidas Yeezy Boost 700—with basically no warning. Available only as a pre-order, and only on Kanye's own Yeezy Supply website, the shoes remained in stock for almost an entire day (something unheard of for any planned Yeezy releases). The shoe signaled a radical departure from the moon boot-like 750s and the sock-sneaker-leaning 350s. Instead, they were a colorful, retro-inspired runner style with the nickname "Wave Runner." For several months it was speculated that the pre-order would be the only ever release of the Wave Runner, and since then, the $1,000+ resale price of the sneakers has reflected that scarcity. But this week the multi-color Yeezy is back, and this time for a proper online release.
This release, unlike others, is simpler than just about any other in recent sneaker history. There's no raffles, no special apps, and no contests to enter. There's just you, a link, and the vague hope that Yeezus himself will bestow upon thee a pair of fire kicks. Which also makes this the latest way Kanye West is trying to shake up the way sneakers are dropped in 2018. Think way back to the OG Yeezy 700 pre-order, or to the bundle pack offered late last year that included the new Yeezy 500 "Moon Yellow." West's latest iteration is a refreshing curveball: we've all come to expect a million hoops to jump through just to buy some shoes these days, and there's something nice about knowing that these will simply be released online this Saturday.
Then again...this could get ugly. Unless there's something we don't know, a straight-up online release—and one with the exact time of the drop already announced—is going to create a World War Z-level rush of sneaker-buying bots on the brand's servers. So we won't be shocked if the online release of these shoes isn't exactly smooth, and, as always, we're expecting luck to play a major factor in who does and does not ultimately end up with a pair. 'Ye can mix up the release cycle as much as he wants, but some things never change. That said, there are a few things you can do to better prepare yourself for this online drop.

Check Your Internet Connection
Check out Speedtest.net to see how fast your internet is actually running. Then call your Internet provider to correct any issues or upgrade to the highest of high-speed connections. When thousands of ravenous customers all crash a website, even the smallest fraction of megabyte speed can make the difference.
Use the Buddy System
If you really want these shoes, increase your odds by telling some friends and family to try their best to get them at the same time you are. But don’t inundate them with tons of information, because chances are they don’t care. Simply send them a link, a specific time, the size you would like, and your credit card information.
Type Your Credit Card Info into a Word Doc
You don’t want to be the idiot who gets the sneakers in his cart, only to realize you can’t find your wallet. Write all of the info in a Word document, then simply copy and paste. Additionally, you can enable auto-fill on your browser to load your name and address information automatically upon reaching the checkout page.
Resist the Urge to Refresh
Once a link goes live, remember that the site will be slow. There are way more people on the site than at any other time, all vying for a handful of sneakers. But the way these systems work is in order, so all refreshing will do is kick you to the back of the line. Be patient, hold your place, and make attempts to add your size to your cart about once every minute. Feverishly clicking on the same link won't help.
